Sponsor an Ex Lab animal

At BFA we want every animal to have the best possible chance at a new life. So when an animal comes to us and has a special need, an existing medical condition or just needs some extra time to adjust, we make sure to cover the costs and provide everything we possibly can. Giving their new family peace of mind so that they can concentrate on loving them and teaching them about their new world.

We call these special needs animals ‘Forever Fosters’.  Once they have been fully vet checked, and temperament tested, we place them with an appropriate new family or with one of our existing foster families. Then we keep in close contact and make sure we are there to help with everything we possibly can.

Below are some of the current Forever Fosters that you can sponsor. Each payment you make will go directly towards their ongoing care and will ensure that we can continue to offer this program for animals just like them.

Nicko

Nicko is a 12 year old beagle with the gentlest nature. He came into our care at 10 years old and has since settled into a loving forever foster home, where he is cherished as part of the family.

Nicko is part of our sponsor dog program due to ongoing medical needs. He has urinary incontinence and ongoing UTI’s, which is well managed by his dedicated carers, and he was also diagnosed with Cushing’s disease at 11. Both conditions require regular veterinary care and costly medication.

While his foster family provides him with all the love, comfort and day to day care he could ever need, we support them by covering the cost of his treatment. This ensures Nicko can remain right where he belongs, safe, happy, and surrounded by people who adore him, with a safety net in place for whatever he may need.

Levi

Levi came into our care from a research facility at just 4 years old, and now at 7, he has well and truly found his place at HQ. He is the youngest at HQ and brings a playful, lighthearted energy that keeps everyone moving.

Levi is a soft, cuddly and happy boy who enjoys the simple things, long snoozes, fresh air, and the company of his canine friends. Alongside his easy going nature, Levi lives with epilepsy, which means his health needs to be carefully monitored.

He requires ongoing medication, along with regular veterinary checks and blood tests to ensure his levels remain within a safe and therapeutic range. Through our sponsor dog program, we’re able to provide Levi with the consistent care he needs, so he can continue living a comfortable, content life. We look forward to seeing him enjoy many more happy years ahead.

Lewis

Lewis is a young ex-research boy who came into our care in early 2026 at just 18 months old. Despite everything he is an incredibly sweet and gentle dog who has already shown just how much love he has to give.

Lewis is currently undergoing veterinary investigations for a heart condition, and while we are still learning exactly what his long-term care will look like, it’s clear he will need ongoing support. Our priority is ensuring he receives the best possible treatment now, and into the future.

Once his care plan is finalised, Lewis will move into a forever foster home where he can enjoy the comfort of family life. Through our sponsor dog program, we will cover the cost of his cardiac care for the rest of his life, whatever that may involve.

By sponsoring Lewis, you are helping us give this young boy the chance to grow up safe, supported and deeply loved, with his future protected every step of the way.

Peanut & Jasmine

Peanut and Jasmine are a bonded siblings who came to us at age 9. It was always clear they belonged side by side, and keeping them together has been a priority. Now approaching 12, they are settled in a loving forever foster home where they continue to thrive with the comfort of each other.

Jasmine has thyroid issues that require regular vet care and daily medication to keep her feeling well. Peanut, meanwhile, has some behavioural challenges, but with the support of his carer and the reassurance of having Jasmine by his side, he is able to feel safe and settled.

Through our sponsor program, we support their foster home by covering the cost of Jasmine’s medical care, along with Peanut’s behavioural medication and veterinary needs. This allows them to remain together, living a secure, comfortable life surrounded by understanding and care.

Lily

Lily is a senior feline lady! She is a bob-tailed domestic shorthaired cat with one of the biggest personalities we’ve ever seen! She is loveable in every way.

When she arrived into care in 2021 at the age of 12, she was extremely over weight. She had struggled with her weight for her whole life. Her initial blood tests showed no medical reason for this and with some special food, we were able to bring her weight down to a healthy level. So, to ensure she never finds the weight she lost, we added Lily to our sponsorship program, this way we can provide her new family with special food and regular vet visits, weigh-ins and blood tests to make sure she is always healthy.

Lily is a happy and very expressive girl who’s favourite past time is sitting in whatever cardboard box she can find!

Keryn

Keryn was 9 years old when she was released into our care in 2024, and she now calls BFA HQ home. She is a gentle, resilient girl who has settled into sanctuary life, surrounded by familiar faces and a routine that helps her feel safe and comfortable.

Keryn has some health challenges, including respiratory issues that require careful, ongoing management. She receives close monitoring, regular veterinary care and the medications she needs to keep her breathing comfortably and her quality of life high.

Through our sponsorship program, we’re able to provide Keryn with consistent support, from routine check-ups to any specialist care she may need. This ensures she can remain at HQ, where her needs are well understood and she is cared for every day.

Armani

Armani is a sweet and snuggly little girl. She came to us from a facility in 2023 at the age of 5, with a suspected heart condition. After lots of diagnostic tests, including a heart ultrasound, we were able to confirm that she indeed suffers from Feline Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy.

This is a condition where one of her heart chambers is severely thickened and the flow of blood through her heart is compromised. She is at a high risk of developing a blood clot. So she is staying in our foster program and we will continue to monitor her closely and keep her comfortable for as long as she has left. All funds raised for Armani will go towards paying for her medications and ongoing specialist vet care.

Freckle

Freckle is an 11 year old beagle boy who was released from a research facility in 2016. He has lived in forever foster care at HQ ever since.

Freckle stayed at HQ because he was quite an anxious boy and needed to be heavily sedated just for something as simple as a nail clip.  So he stayed and we’ve been helping him to desensitise and cope with the world ever since.

He recently suffered from a thoracic neck injury. There was no warning or trauma, he simply lost all control of his lower half one evening.  After strict rest for 8+ weeks he has improved significantly. Due to his anxiety, he was not a candidate for surgery. He is now living his life to the fullest everyday as the boss beagle of the house.

Alyssa

Alyssa is a 12 year old foxhound, she has a loving forever foster home, where she is able to enjoy the comfort and stability every older dog deserves. She is a gentle, easygoing girl who has settled beautifully into home life and enjoys the peaceful life.

As an older, larger dog, Alyssa does have some age-related health needs. While these are not serious, they do require ongoing monitoring and occasional veterinary care to keep her feeling her best.

Through our sponsorship program, we provide that extra layer of support by helping to cover her medical needs. This allows Alyssa’s family to focus on what matters most, giving her a safe, loving home where she can relax and enjoy her golden years, with the reassurance that she has a strong support network behind her.

Buttons

Released in October of 2021, Buttons was 8 years old and has got issues with his knees. Both of Button’s knees require a Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy (TPLO) surgery for torn cranial cruciate ligaments in both legs (ACL). This is an intense surgery where they cut the bone in his knee, adjust it and pin it back together in a different position with metal plates and screws. It immediately stabilises the knee and eliminates the need for the ACL ligament entirely. This is a costly procedure (approx $3,500 per leg) and takes 6-8 weeks of recovery and physio.

Your donation for Buttons will help us to provide this costly and life saving surgery for him. as well as any ongoing care that he might need in the future. We will be his safety net for the rest of his life. He lives with his forever foster family and has 2 other beagle siblings. They all get along and are very bonded and well loved.

Emma

Released in April of 2021, Emma is a  happy, loving and snuggly Foxhound girl. She is 13 years old now and has got issues with her knees. Emma’s knees will require a Tibial Plateau Levelling Osteotomy (TPLO) surgery for torn cranial cruciate ligaments in both legs (ACL). This is an intense surgery where they cut the bone in her knee, adjust it and pin it back together in a different position with metal plates and screws. It immediately stabilises the knee and eliminates the need for the ACL ligament entirely. This is a costly procedure (approx $5,000+ per leg, for a large breed like Emma) and takes 6-8 weeks of recovery and physio.

Your donation for Emma will help us to provide this costly and life saving surgery for her as well as all of her ongoing recovery care, medications and any other issues she may have in her lifetime.3

Casey

Casey was 5 and half when she arrived at BFA, a sweet little beagle girl who is in permanent foster care at HQ as she learns to cope with the outside world. Released to us in early 2019, she is a sensitive and loving girl but is not used to being around people. Casey loves her foster humans and all the other dogs that she meets, but when new people come to visit, she gets so scared and wants to run away as far as she can. To cope with this, Casey, along with Wrinkles, is having training and desensitisation daily and is on behaviour modifying medication to help her relax while she learns.

Your generous sponsorship will go towards that training, medication and ongoing costs of care and is a vital part the work we do at Beagle Freedom Australia.

A Visit to

Rainbow bridge

It’s a sad fact of life, that out beloved animal friends can’t and don’t live forever. Below we will picture our sponsor animals who’ve sadly passed away. Some were only here with us for a short time, others longer, but they will never be forgotten by us, or their foster families. You can still make a donation in their name if you would like to. They were loved very deeply by their forever foster families and never lived a day without. If you would like to, you can sign up to be a foster carer or a forever foster carer, we’d love to hear from you.
